Snack Ideas

Try these easy and nutritious Red Prince snack ideas that the whole family will love. To reap maximum antioxidant benefits, leave the skin on the apple.

  • Red Prince Smoothie: In a blender, combine one washed and cored Red Prince apple (with skin on), half of one peeled banana, one cup of skim milk and one ice cube.  If lactose intolerant, substitute rice or soy milk for skim milk.  A perfect blend for a quick breakfast or an afternoon snack.
  • Regal Apple Triangles: Wash, core and slice one large Red Prince apple and set aside.  On one whole wheat tortilla, spread 1 tbsp (15mL) of smooth peanut butter.  Arrange apple slices on peanut butter spread and cover with a second tortilla. With a pizza cutter or knife, cut into small triangles and serve.  If desired, sprinkle with a little cinnamon. These regal apple triangles can be savoured cold or grilled in a panini press for a warm treat.
  • Red Prince Apple Skewers: Wash, core one Red Prince apple and cut into small cubes, leaving skin on. Slice some cheddar cheese into similarly sized cubes. Skewer the apples and cheese alternately on toothpicks. If packing for a school lunch, squeeze a little lemon juice on the apple to prevent it from browning.
  • Regal Trail Mix: Wash, core and dice three large Red Prince apples into 1/4-inch (5 mm) cubes (skin on).  Spread apples on parchment lined baking sheet (or use food dehydrator and follow manufacturer instructions). Bake for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes or until apples have achieved the consistency of raisins.  Let cool. Toss with dried apples with desired quantities of raisins, peanuts, nuts, seeds and other dried fruit to make your own unique trail mix. This is great for hiking adventures!
  • Add diced apples to tuna or chicken salad for an antioxidant boost.
