Sports Etiquette
You can’t talk about sports etiquette without talking about good sportsmanship.
Three things are important: safety, knowing the rules and being respectful of other players. Here are a few other valuable guidelines:
- Â Arrive on time
- Dress properly
- If you are the host, make sure everything is ready
- If you are the guest make sure you arrive ready to play
- If you don’t own equipment, rent it –don’t borrow it
- Know the rules of the game
- Start and end with a handshake
- Don’t brag if you are an excellent player. No one likes a bragger and your performance will speak for itself
- Unless you want to be crowned jerk of the year, leave your bad temper at home. There is no excuse for swearing, throwing a tantrum or your racket
- Don’t be a sore loser, but at the same time, if you are the winner, be a gracious winner. Be modest, compliment your opponent and thank him/her for playingÂ
- Regardless of the sport, treat the sports ground as if it was your own backyard. Pick up any litter, broken tees, stretch the net after a game, return equipment and so on
