Thx 4 gift I Luv it

Is this text message the thank you note of the future?

Sometimes as parents, we have become so used to the instant forms of communication in our fast-paced world that we don’t even think of sending a hand written thank you note for a holiday party or gift, never mind prompting our children to do so.  Generally, it doesn’t occur to children to write letters to grandmothers or thank you notes without encouragement from an adult.

Is an e-mail or text message thank you good enough?  However progressive we are, technology can’t ever replace the art of a hand written letter or card.  It shows the person that you think enough of them to take the time to sit down and write.  It’s important for children to develop this skill, not only to develop their writing skills, but to teach them to become courteous and gracious.

Write a thank you note:

  • when you’ve received a gift from someone
  • when you’ve stayed overnight in someone’s home
  • when you’ve received a special favour or kindness from someone
  • when you’ve been a dinner guest or party guest
  • when someone has hosted a special party for you
  • when you want to show appreciation
